Designed at the 20s in Bauhaus tradition, Futura looks still modern today. Futura is one of the oldest geometric fonts and inspired a lot of other great typographs. Take Adrian Frutiger with his Font Avenir as an example: Avenir means Future in french.
Before the Typeface was called Jost* it run under the name Renner*, after Paul Renner, giving you a clear hint to the intentional simmilarity to his typeface Futura. The font was later renamed to Jost* due to legal issues.
The most significant difference is the lowercase a, Other changes are the upper J which goes under the baseline, the j which has a bow and the u wich as a stamp. Also the t-stroke is centered and the 1 has an angle.
The most noticable differences between Glacial Indifference and Futura is are the letters ending horizontal instead of vertical. You can see it at the uppercase C and G and also the lowercase e is ending horizontal instead of slightly angled. Other differences are the Q-stroke, and the j which has a curve instread of being straight. However, Spartan MB has more differences to the original ATF Spartan than ATF Spartan to Futura.
Matt Baily describes his font “Spartan MB” as “based on an ATF Classig”. Here he is refering to the American Type Founders typeface “Spartan” which is based on Futura itself.
In difference to the original Futura typeface, there are no spikes at the uppercase A, M and N letters, making the font look more similar to “Futura Demi” than to the classic font. You might also notice, that the lowercase t is rounded instead of straight, giving the font a more humanistic look. However, there is an alternate lowercase t included, more similar to the original. Another noticable difference is the bend Q-stroke, also making the font look a bit more humanistic.
